President Intervenes in Flood Relief, Coordinates Local and Regional Disaster Response
The President has deferred his annual leave to focus on directing both local and regional disaster response measures, as flooding continues to affect communities, infrastructure and livelihoods across Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique.

HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has stepped in to personally coordinate emergency flood relief efforts following severe rainfall that has caused widespread damage and displacement in parts of Zimbabwe and the Southern African region.
The President has deferred his annual leave to focus on directing both local and regional disaster response measures, as flooding continues to affect communities, infrastructure and livelihoods across Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique.
Government departments, civil protection units and humanitarian agencies have been placed on high alert, with efforts underway to provide rescue services, temporary shelter, food aid and medical assistance to affected communities. Authorities are also assessing damage to roads, bridges and public facilities.
At a regional level, President Mnangagwa is engaging with neighbouring countries and regional bodies to ensure coordinated disaster response efforts, information sharing and support where needed, as extreme weather events continue to impact Southern Africa.
The Civil Protection Unit has urged citizens in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, follow official warnings and cooperate with emergency teams during evacuations and relief operations.
Government says it remains committed to safeguarding lives and strengthening disaster preparedness as climate-related emergencies become more frequent.
